Winter 2021 – Spring 2022

Dear Members
I hope that you have all managed to enjoy some of the many events the club has put on this year. The committee has organised a wide variety to suit everyone and all levels.
Congratulations to Sophie Johnson for representing LCRC at the National horse trials championships, in the 80, riding as an individual.
Teams representing the club at Area 12 competitions, have again been very successful, the intermediate dressage team won with outstanding results, winning each of their classes, well done to Jane Rogers, Sarah Wharton, Charlotte Chadwick and Emily Roser. The Novice team also did extremely well and it was really nice to welcome new team members: Greta Duff and Kate Williams. We are planning more team competitions over the winter and spring, details are sent out regularly via email, huge thanks to Sarah Wharton for all her hard work coordinating the teams, this is not an easy job! Do ask and join the club teams or come along and support, team members love having members there to cheer them on…. Teams are FUN, which is how it should be, winning is an added bonus!

The rides have been really good and well supported, the weather has been kind to us, thanks to the ride leaders for so many super routes over different country, which members have enjoyed. Rides will continue throughout the winter as they have proved so popular, do come along for Christmas cheer ride, even if you are not planning to ride, come and join in the festive fun!

Many Thanks to Kate Williams, who has taken on our club Facebook page, she is doing a super job. Kate was on the committee years ago and set up the Facebook page…. It is now very popular, with photos and all the up-to-date information, the website also provides information for members who are not on social media.

Training has also been popular this summer: the club has subsidised some Dressage, Show jumping, XC and pole clinics. The Pole clinics have been really well attended and enjoyed…. More planned for next year and maybe a musical ride or dressage to music.

Hope to see you over the winter.
Fiona

60.seconds and 10 questions with…… Frances Allhusen

Where were you born and where have you lived: Essendon, Hertfordshire then Pinhay and Whitlands, Lyme Regis
Your First pony, name, size & breed: Tony 12.2 Dartmoor who endlessly bucked us off
Funniest horse / pony moment: In 70s and early 80s we used to travel ponies loose in the trailer.  My funniest moment was fat little Marcus coming out through the jockey door and getting his tummy stuck, while 6-year-old Louise was trying to push him back. Somehow, he managed to jump back unaided.
Top Tip: Get ready the night before and have a mental or actual list especially when travelling a long distance.
Rider Hero: Mary King.  Who else always put her horse at the very top of the list and never mentioned herself unless she made a mistake. Even after the London Olympics when we met her driving her lorry, all she could say was 'Wasn't he brilliant?"
Horse you might like to steal: Louise's Tammy.  A magic little mare
Your proudest achievement: Revisiting fences that, with dear old Dick Brake's voice ringing in my ears "Kick on m'dear" , somehow I jumped.,
How much did you pay for the first set of shoes and in what year: 60 years ago...no idea.  When first married, we went to Frankie Turl's forge by Chantry Bridge, Colyton.
How many years have you been a member of L.C.R.C. I first joined in the very early days with home bred Carler so very early 80s.  After a long gap I rejoined 5 years ago
Main aim for 2021: To have fun with like-minded friends.
